Daniel Sturridge was on target in his first Barclays Premier League appearance since August as he rounded off Liverpool's scoring in a 2 - 0 win over West Ham United at Anfield.
Daniel Sturridge has been plagued with groin and thigh injuries so far this term, but came off the bench to add to Raheem Sterling's opener after the forward had given the home side the lead shortly after the break.
The mood was positive around Anfield prior to the fixture due to Sturridge being named on the bench and Sterling added to the feel-good factor by helping maintain Liverpool's mid-season revival with a smart finish following a clever pass from Philippe Coutinho.

Chances continued to prove few and far between, but Sturridge's return for the final 22 minutes gave Liverpool added impetus.

The England international then finished from close range to put the game to bed and extend Liverpool's unbeaten run in the league to seven matches as the hosts leapfrogged Sam Allardyce's side into seventh.
It was Liverpool who were on the front foot early on as Lazar Markovic went close from inside the area and Coutinho tested Adrian with a side-footed effort after some slick build-up play.
Despite struggling to create much of note in the attacking third, West Ham went closest before the break with Andy Carroll's header from inside the area after the half-hour mark.
Strong running from Raheem Sterling created a chance that Adam Lallana was unable to finish, while Markovic spurned another opportunity late in the half when he shot wide following careless play in possession from Stewart Downing.
The hosts' pressure continued after the interval and Liverpool were rewarded when Coutinho's clipped pass evaded James Tomkins and put Sterling clean through.
Sterling calmly slotted the ball past Adrian and things looked to have got worse for the visitors when Carroll appeared to hurt himself in a challenge with Emre Can.
The striker returned to action having initially hobbled off, but was replaced by Carlton Cole after the hour mark.

Without Carroll's presence up top, West Ham continued to struggle to gain a foothold in the game, while Liverpool introduced Sturridge to a rapturous applause from the Anfield faithful.
The striker - influential in Liverpool's title tilt last term - needed just 12 minutes to score his first goal since the opening day as he slipped Coutinho's ball past Adrian to seal the points.

It leaves Liverpool looking upwards at the European places, while West Ham remain without a win at Anfield since 1963.
• Liverpool Manager - Brendan Rodgers:
"We were obviously disappointed in midweek with the result at Chelsea in the Capital One Cup. We knew coming into today it was going be a tough game. West Ham have done great this season, but we had to win the battle and compete, fight and press. My players did that magnificently well. Maybe we could have had more than two goals.

"......Daniel Sturridge is a top class player, he has shown that in his career so far. He worked very hard and the first opportunity that came his way he took. It was a wonderful pass by Philippe Coutinho."
• West Ham Manager - Sam Allardyce:
[We had] too many injuries [today], James Collins had a hamstring [injury] at half-time and we didn't have a replacement really. He tried to play with a strapping but that made us drop too deep really. Because of that we probably allowed Raheem Sterling a bit more space than in the first half and Andy got injured, Reidy got injured and we end up with 10 men.
"We had a few problems before today with the team - Kouyate came back from Africa Cup of Nations injured, Tomkins and Jenkinson not making it and Sakho not being in the team. Having put in a nice show in the first half, looking comfortable, it became too much based on what happened to us as a team more than what happened to us as a team."

Chelsea remain five points clear at the top of the Barclays Premier League after sharing a 1-1 draw with their nearest rivals Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
Although Man City were unable to make inroads into Chelsea's lead they responded well to Loic Remy's opening goal, David Silva pegging the Blues back shortly before the interval.
Remy, who was recalled to deputise for the suspended Diego Costa, took centre stage by giving the hosts a 41st-minute lead, before a rare mistake by Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois allowed Silva to equalise in the final minute of the first half.
Manuel Pellegrini's team controlled much of the second period, but were unable to find a second breakthrough against a resolute Chelsea defence and had to settle for a draw that extended winless league run to three matches.
City overhauled deficits in late runs to claiming the BPL crown in 2012 and 2014, and a similar effort may now be required, as Mourinho's men remain in the driving seat with 15 matches remaining.
Aside from Costa's absence, Ramires came into the Chelsea midfield as Cesc Fabregas missed out with hamstring injury, while Bacary Sagna was a surprise inclusion at right-back ahead of Pablo Zabaleta for Manchester City.
The visitors started sharply, as Courtois beat away a stinging shot from Jesus Navas inside the first 20 seconds and Fernandinho had a low, angled drive deflected wide.
James Milner was alert to dispossess Chelsea right-back Branislav Ivanovic in the 24th minute and play the ball into Sergio Aguero, but Kurt Zouma forced City's top scorer to shoot from an acute angle and Courtois saved comfortably.
Courtois' opposite number, Joe Hart, made his first save of the match from an Oscar effort after an error by Vincent Kompany let Remy escape down the left flank.
John Terry then joined fellow captain Kompany in seeing an error go unpunished, Aguero pulling a shot wastefully wide after the former England man had missed his kick from a 32nd-minute punt down field.
That was a chance the Argentina striker would regret 10 minutes later, as Eden Hazard brilliantly steered Ivanovic's flighted pass back across goal for Remy to convert.
City's response was immediate, as Courtois fumbled a searching Navas cross, Aguero smashed the loose ball back towards goal and Silva prodded home.
Frank Lampard enjoyed warm applause on his return to Stamford Bridge while warming up with the City substitutes, as his colleagues on the field enjoyed an encouraging start the second half.
Silva and Navas combined on the right flank for Fernandinho to plant a header into the turf - Courtois turning the bouncing ball over.
Milner then looped a headed attempt on to the roof of the net, the impressive Navas again supplying the ammunition, and City's control increased as Chelsea's midweek League Cup exertions began to tell.

Lampard finally made a 76th-minute introduction as City attempted a late assault.

However, with Mourinho increasingly animated on the touchline, Chelsea displayed steely resilience in keeping with their manager's siege mentality, as they closed out what could prove to be a vital point in the title race.

"I think that our team tried to win the game from the first minute until the end.
"I am very proud about that because it is not easy to come here to Stamford Bridge against the leaders of the Premier League with very good players.
"We created, especially in the first half, clear chances to deserve more than the point.
"That's why I am not happy about the point but I am happy with the performance."
